Black Family Weekend is more than a single event. It is a structured cultural platform designed to convene students, alumni, families, and the broader community while converting visibility into measurable economic impact, direct student support, and sponsor value. Through a coordinated weekend model, BFW activates performing arts, hospitality, philanthropy, and local commerce in a way that is visible, fundable, and scalable.

BFW drives measurable economic activity across San José through hotel stays, dining, transportation usage, vendor participation, and digital visibility. Based on current planning assumptions, Black Family Weekend generates an estimated $1,657,300 in economic impact through hospitality, food and beverage, transportation, small business participation, and media exposure.
Whether you want to fund student outcomes, support the Step Show Performing Arts Program, activate your brand through sponsorship, or attend a high-energy community weekend, BFW provides a clear path to participate.

We are a nonprofit 501(c)3 organization that teams up with various San Jose State University (SJSU) and other local organizations to provide inclusive, enjoyable Black Family Weekend experiences for current/future SJSU students, alumni, faculty/staff, and the surrounding communities.
To execute events and programs that focus on Black Family culture during SJSU's homecoming weekend, while forging partnerships and programs that promote mental health/emotional well-being, expressive art, healthcare equity, and financial literacy.
Black Family Weekend provides a sense of community and camaraderie among many local organizations, SJSU students, alumni, faculty, and staff from across the country.
Bringing these groups together around a fun social activity once a year provides opportunities to network around job and family resources, community service opportunities, educational engagements, etc. Some alumni bring their children who will soon be entering college to give them a taste of college life with the hopes of creating new SJSU students, thus this event directly supports new student acquisition efforts as well.
We create memorable Black Family Weekend reunions!
Our Board – Our Values. BFW's core values of civic engagement, academic achievement, financial literacy, expressive arts, and mental well-being are foundational to our events and programs.
