About Us

About Black Family Weekend

We are a nonprofit 501(c)3 organization that teams up with various San Jose State University (SJSU) and other local organizations to provide inclusive, enjoyable Black Family Weekend experiences for current/future SJSU students, alumni, faculty/staff, and the surrounding communities.

Our Mission

To execute events and programs that focus on Black Family culture during SJSU's homecoming weekend, while forging partnerships and programs that promote mental health/emotional well-being, expressive art, healthcare equity, and financial literacy.

Our Impact

Black Family Weekend provides a sense of community and camaraderie among many local organizations, SJSU students, alumni, faculty, and staff from across the country.

Bringing these groups together around a fun social activity once a year provides opportunities to network around job and family resources, community service opportunities, educational engagements, etc. Some alumni bring their children who will soon be entering college to give them a taste of college life with the hopes of creating new SJSU students, thus this event directly supports new student acquisition efforts as well.

We create memorable Black Family Weekend reunions!
