The 2 euro commemorative coin issued by Portugal in 2024 marks the 50th anniversary of the Revolution of April 25, 1974. The obverse features a carnation, symbol of the revolution, accompanied by the verse “This is the dawn I expected” by Sophia de Mello Breyner Andresen. The reverse displays the map of Western Europe, with the inscription “2 EURO”. The coin is bimetallic, consisting of a nickel core plated in nickel brass and a cupronickel ring. Mintage is limited to 500,000.
