The 1981 Portuguese Escudo coin is made of copper-nickel and is 23 mm in diameter. On the obverse, it displays the value “1 Escudo” with an armillary sphere, symbol of Portugal. The reverse features the national shield and the date “1981”. It is a representative piece of the Portuguese shield before the Euro.
